Dyson DC07 Cyclone Upright Vacuum
I've really enjoyed putting this web site together. I get to make a list of all my favorite stuff, and then talk about it! How cool is that? There's something about focusing on your favorite things, and describing all the qualities you appreciate about them. It elevates the soul. Anyway - the Dyson DC07 Vacuum is another one of those things: A vacuum that doesn't lose suction; that doesn't deal with those messy, stupid old "hoover bags"; that has a transparent dirt container that enables you to see how full it is; that doesn't sound like a jumbo jet at close range... and that is based on an ultra-cool technological innovation that uses powerful centrifugal force and leaves the air coming out of it apparently cleaner than the air that went in. Another reason I like the Dyson is that the company has a fascinating history - and is one of the true "underdog victory" stories of our times. After inventing his machine, Dyson tried to interest major vacuum companies in his design - and they turned him away. So he decided to set up shop himself in England, and within two years his machine was outselling all the competition. Not only that, but Dyson has since then successfully defended his invention against repeated patent infringements. So you might call him the "Rocky" of the vacuum world. I've put the Dyson machine through serious abuse, and it has sailed through many times cleaning up the entire inventory of gear in the warehouse after doing sound installations at festivals. It's another item that I wouldn't want to be without. I won't even consider another brand.
